Markwood Apartments

Located near the scenic Skagit River in Burlington, Markwood is a modern apartment community designed to offer residents comfort, connection, and convenience. This phased development delivers spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes with in-unit washers and dryers, private balconies or patios, and refined interior finishes throughout. The community is pet-friendly and features generous parking, outdoor recreation access, and a newly added fitness center to support a well-rounded lifestyle. With close proximity to Skagit Valley College, local schools, shopping, and Interstate 5, Markwood offers residents a balance of quiet living and everyday accessibility.

Developed in two phases, the project evolved to meet the growing demand for quality housing in the area. Phase II expanded on the foundation of Phase I, introducing energy-efficient mini-split systems and enhanced amenities while maintaining the same core design standards. Together, these phases form a unified residential community built with long-term livability in mind.

Development

Sage Homes initiated land development for both phases of Markwood in September 2022. Acting as the in-house general contractor, the team led all aspects of site preparation and infrastructure planning, ensuring quality oversight and smooth execution across the board.

Construction

Construction of Markwood I began in Q4 2022, with the first building receiving its Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) in October 2023. Markwood II broke ground in Q1 2024 and was completed by February 2025, with the first building achieving TCO in December 2024. This phase introduced notable upgrades, including high-efficiency mini-splits for heating and cooling, and a new fitness center to round out the community’s amenity offering. Sage's vertically integrated model allowed for seamless coordination between phases and ensured consistent quality from start to finish.
